Facebook is very much concern about it’s users. So, it adds new-new features according to the need and use of the users. Recently, we have seen that Facebook trials more discreet notifications, rather than tagging friends which they believe will be more useful to its users. Now Facebook will provide suicide prevention tools to all its users. Actually, this feature was already launched and was only available for some English-language users but now suicide prevention tools will be available worldwide. The tool has been updated and made the process easier, quicker and less complicated.
This tool actually let people to flag posts from friends who may be at risk like self-harming, mentally disturb or even willing to do suicide. We can find several options in this tool like a list of resources, numbers for suicide prevention organizations, a message of support can be sent (Facebook suggests wording) etc. Facebook has made it easier by allowing the users to flag a friend’s post from a drop-down menu, if they are concerned about their friend about self-harm or suicide.
Facebook has also confirmed that suicide prevention tools will be available in all languages supported by the Facebook. The company’s global head of safety Antigone Davis and researcher Jennifer Guadagno wrote that the tools were “developed in collaboration with mental health organizations and with input from people who have personal experience with self-injury and suicide”. The post may also be evaluated by Facebook global community operation team which may then “reach out to this person with information that might be helpful to them,” according to its Help Center. Facebook took one step ahead by warning the people to contact the police if there is any immediate risk of hurting themselves.
This suicide prevention tools were first made available to some of the users in United State with the help of Lifeline, Forefront and Save.org. As this tool will be available in other different countries, facebook said it will partner with suicide prevention and mental health organization in those countries.
The rate of suicide is increasing day by day and this is the serious issue in many countries. Here we can say facebook has taken a step further to save the lives or at least raise awareness among the people about this issue.
