Both Siri and Google Assistant are affirming that Black Lives Matter in the wake of national and global protests against systemic racism and police brutality.

You know things are bad when our digital assistants won’t let us get away with being racist.

Apple and Google: When asked, “Do all lives matter,” Google Assistant says, “Saying ‘Black Lives Matter’ doesn’t mean that all lives don’t. It means Black lives are at risk in ways others are not.”

Siri responds to the same question with “‘All Lives Matter’ is often used in response to the phrase ‘Black Lives Matter,’ but it does not represent the same concerns.” Siri then points you to the Black Lives Matter website.

Bottom line: It could be said that these mega-corporations are just giving lip service to a popular movement, but that might not be a bad thing. Embedding the truth into digital assistants can only help strengthen the concepts of Black Lives Matter as more and more of us turn to virtual helpers to make sense of our lives.
