Ubuntu 13.10 has a new keyboard applet that makes switching between keyboard layouts and types easy. While it’s great to have if you like to use different keyboards and/or languages on your computer, many users may not have a need for it.
This new applet is enabled by default, but luckily you can easily disable it and remove it from your panel using these three easy steps.
Open System Settings.
Click on “Region and Language”
Uncheck next to “Show Current Input Source in Menu Bar”
It should now be hidden. Any time you feel like you do need it, just follow the first two steps above and check the box next to “Show Current Input Source in Menu Bar.”
