You can use salt near the exits of rooms to see if the ghost leaves the room causing footprints in it. But is this the same thing as a fingerprint? Well, no.

Fingerprints and footprints are different types of evidence in the game. Check the doors, windows or other items like light switches for fingerprints/handprints because the ghost can interact with them. Use the UV light for this which you can purchase it for $40. Note that you can detect both types of prints with the UV light and you can carry flashlights with it too.
So, remember that footprints that you see by using the salt shaker will not be counted as fingerprint evidence – both are separate.
