Outlook Mail offers support for many languages. To force a change to how Outlook Mail displays messages relative to the system’s active language, change its default language.

How to Change the Regional Language in Outlook Mail

Outlook Mail (as well as many of Microsoft’s other applications) offers robust language support. Change the default language on Outlook.com.

Information in this article applies to Outlook Mail on Windows 10 as accessed through a browser.

Changing the current language of Microsoft Windows changes the language of Outlook Mail because Outlook Mail by default uses the language of the browser, which in turn defaults to the language of the operating system. The procedure we outline below overrides the language set at the operating system and browser level.

  • Open Settings by selecting the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the Outlook Mail screen.
  • Select View all Outlook settings.
  • Select General to open a list of general settings options.
  • Select Language and Time.
  • Select the Language dropdown arrow to display all the available languages and choose a language.
  • Clear the Rename default folders so their names match the specified language check box if you don’t want to rename folders such as the Inbox and Outbox using the new language choice.
  • Select Save.

Once saved, Outlook.com automatically reloads with your new language settings.

Open Settings by selecting the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the Outlook Mail screen.

Select View all Outlook settings.

Select General to open a list of general settings options.

Select Language and Time.

Select the Language dropdown arrow to display all the available languages and choose a language.

Clear the Rename default folders so their names match the specified language check box if you don’t want to rename folders such as the Inbox and Outbox using the new language choice.

To change the way dates and times appear in Outlook.com, choose a different Date format, Time format, or Current time zone.
